Becky Brinkerhoff, Copywriter
Mentors: Angela, Duda, and James
Where I come from:
I’m originally from Birmingham, AL and have the fried chicken cooking skills to prove it.
Why I do what I do:
I came to Emerson College to study acting, but found I wasn’t too keen on being graded on the ability to cry in class. Spoiler alert: I couldn’t. So, I picked up a double major in Marketing Communications. With both my majors, I got by on wit and determination.
I’ve always been a writer, so when I took my first copywriting course, there was a moment of “oh, I’m good at this! I like this!” I wrote, edited, and illustrated my first novel when I was nine. It was called Unicorns and it was about, well, unicorns. It was surprisingly well written for a third grader–even if I spelled “neigh” wrong throughout the entire book.
What I’d be doing if I wasn’t doing what I do:
Acting? Writing tell-all creative non-fiction pieces about everyone in my life? Working for Planned Parenthood? Being a young adult novelist? Crying over my lack of direction in life?
A book title that describes my life:
Disaster Girl: a graphic novel.
